The Intermountain States Seminar is a unique convention that started over 50 years ago when the five intermountain states…Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana…joined forces to bring a powerful seminar into being. IMSS is held each fall in the beautiful setting of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Diagnostic Parasitology Update – 2018
Location: Hilton Garden Inn, Sandy, UT
The program will provide updated information on ordering, specimen collection (including the new Universal Fixatives), processing, testing, and reporting (including key report comments). Key recommendations regarding the O&P examination, fecal immunoassays, molecular options (including automated systems), and special stains for the coccidia and microsporidia will be covered with appropriate test menu options. Organism morphology, including name changes and clinical relevance will also be included for the protozoa, helminths, and blood parasites. A practical approach to testing will be emphasized. The program will also provide up-dated information on diagnostic medical parasitology for blood parasites. Key risk management issues regarding mishandling/misdiagnosis of these infections will be covered. Organism morphology, potential errors in diagnosis, pathogenesis, and clinical relevance will also be included for the five species of human malaria (Plasmodium vivax, P. ovale, P. falciparum, P. malariae, and the fifth human malaria P. knowlesi). Information related to blood parasite infections being seen in Afghanistan and Iraq will also be discussed, as will the spread of certain blood parasites within the United States. A practical approach to testing will be emphasized. An extensive handout will be provided to each participant.

ASCLS-CO Southern District Fall Seminar
Location: St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center, Pueblo, CO/span>
The Pueblo Fall Seminar is a Southern Colorado event typically held at Parkview Medical Center or St. Mary-Corwin in Pueblo, Colorado. This year it will be held on October 26th at the St. Mary-Corwin in the SMC Cancer Center. This unique convention is held annually and offers the participants an opportunity to earn up to 6.0 continuing education credits. The education will usually cover general areas of the lab that include Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Immunology, Blood Bank, Pathology/Histology, Coagulation, and Microbiology. The convention also offers a fun atmosphere where colleagues can converse and discuss the rigorous tests and current challenges that modern labs are faced with these days.

Clinical Laboratory Collaborative Conference
Location: DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Denver, Stapleton
This meeting attracts attendees from Colorado and Wyoming, with sessions presented by many nationally recognized and local speakers in all laboratory disciplines. The exhibit hall, filled with local, regional and national clinical laboratory vendors, is always very popular. The meeting is designed to attract the “bench tech,” lab supervisors and managers, lab educators and students. It is an opportunity to learn new things, meet old & new colleagues and view new laboratory products.

CLCC is truly a collaborative effort and is organized and facilitated by local volunteers from each of the sponsoring organizations.
